Jeffrey on… His Hometown of Hamilton, Gay-Straight Alliances and the Future

Had a great time speaking with the Westmount Secondary School Gay-straight Alliance in my hometown of Hamilton this afternoon. Will speak more about that in my next post.

I think Your Humble Blogger learned much more from them then they probably did from me.

  1. Having experience(s) with engaged, thoughtful young people does indeed give one hope. Too often we’re exposed to what seems to be the mindless, thumb-tapping, spoiled children of the way-too-permissive parent. One can just see the country going down the tubes, the country being run by young politicians who simply say: whatever! Conversely, when one comes across ultra-intelligent, mind-ful and excited students, one’s fear for the future is totally unfounded and you breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the future will be in good hands. Here’s to sharing our own experiences and possibly learning a little something along the way.

  2. Wow.
I can not imagine anything like this happening in the States. Imagine! An openly gay person coming to schools to corrupt and promote degenerate lifestyle alternatives! Oh the horror!
On the other hand, I think if a writer came to my high school -gay or straight, young or old – I may have had the courage to become a writer.

  3. That’s so incredible. I’m sure it goes both ways, and it meant something to those kids to see/hear an adult talk about growing up gay. Congrats!
